CLOSE TO HOME ON THE SUNSHINE COAST
As a doctor with 24 years experience in Queensland Health, NHS (Scotland) and Health Victoria; Dr Hamish Gray has now opened private practice clinic on the Sunshine Coast.
Dr Hamish Gray is a highly regarded, internationally trained expert with a focus on lower limb sports injuries and surgery on the knee and hip. Dr Gray is one of the few orthopaedic surgeons in Australia with 4 prestigious hip and knee fellowships completed in accredited national and international world centres.
our purpose
Sunshine Coast Joint Surgery - Dr Hamish Gray, is a bespoke orthopaedic clinic.
It is infinitely rewarding to hear our patients have reduced pain, less frustration, improved mental health, increased mobility, have returned to work, returned to sport and met their goals with either operative or non-operative management.
Opening his own private practice has allowed Dr Gray to consider the patient experience and use design thinking principals to put you at the centre of our practice design & processes. Excellence and sustained success comes from wanting to improve our patients' lifestyles and to meet International standards of care.
For Dr Hamish Gray this means putting personalised care for you or your loved one at the centre of his meticulous, expert care learnt in world renowned, high volume and academic centres.
Dr Hamish Gray provides individualised simple to highly complex hip and knee surgery using the latest technology. This includes computer navigation with patient specific instrumentation or patient specific kinematic aligned knee replacement.
longer appointments
Dr Gray offers longer appointments for new patients. No one knows your body and lifestyle better than you. He combines this knowledge with the latest evidence and a meticulous approach to surgery or non-operative management. These decisions and conversations are not rushed.
shared decision making
Shared decisions making is a more modern way of making treatment decisions. Recommendations for treatment are made together with you, your team & surgeon; each bringing their expertise. This is called shared decision making and is now considered the backbone of best decisions for you and your loved ones. In our practice you are empowered to ask questions to understand your condition and treatment options. These will be answered with honesty and integrity.
excellence in treatment
We offer excellence in the treatment of hip and knee conditions and management of sports injuries for elite athletes and sports enthusiasts. We promise integrity when making decisions with you about surgical or non-surgical management and we value long term outcomes, not just meeting short term goals.
Rural and remote patients
Queensland is one of the most de-centralised states in Australia. There is significant inequity for people living in rural or remote Queensland. Your initial consultation will need to be face-to-face. We can provide pre-habilitation & preparation for surgery and support from our staff and physiotherapist if you don't have one nearby. We have two excellent private hospitals that Dr Gray operates in.
Our beautiful environment will encourage you to be active immediately after surgery to improve outcomes. Should you need inpatient rehabilitation we have highly regarded options for that too. Dr Gray can provide on-line post-operative reviews when appropriate. We can support you with your post surgery recovery with on-line allied health support if there is none nearby to where you live. We keep your GP or local health professionals connected with timely communication. Your doctor is very welcome to meet Dr Gray via telehealth or talk over the phone.
caring for our community
For us, supporting the arts is so important as it has been so heavily affected by COVID restrictions. We are delighted to be platinum sponsors of the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra. They are our local, non-for-profit orchestra of highly trained musicians conducted by Dr Fletcher Mitchel. Both orthopaedic surgeons and musicians require high quality training, practice, a meticulous approach to performance and a commitment to work as a team for success. For us, this is a perfect fit.
Dr Hamish Gray is very mindful of the waste that healthcare generates. He aims to run a paperless practice and recycles when able. We still offer paper forms when required by law or patients. The hospitals where he operates both have sustainability strategies. Excellence in joint replacement prevents repeat surgery for complications or revision(replacement) surgery. This also decreases waste. Part of our sustainability approach includes education to prevent disease and injury.
1 in every 5 people on the Sunshine Coast were born overseas. Dr Hamish Gray has lived in New Zealand, Australia, German and Scotland. He is well travelled, spending extensive time in India, Nepal and Africa. This understanding of many cultures ensures effective communication with the diverse communities on the Sunshine Coast.
